Residents in the village of Deshler would see an increase in their income tax, if council passes a final reading on legislation they have created.   The second reading on a resolution to raise the income tax by a quarter-percent was approved by Deshler Council Monday night.

That would raise the income tax in Deshler from three-quarters of a percent, up to a full 1%.   Deshler Council is making this move to raise more funds to pay for police and fire protection in the village.  The extra quarter-percent would generate about 60,000 additional dollars for municipal operations each year.

And residents travelling through Deshler this weekend are reminded, state route 18 will be detoured through the downtown due the Corn City Festival this Saturday and Sunday.
