Maren Morris Shares Defiant Game Of Thrones-Inspired Track 'Kingdom Of One'

52nd Academy Of Country Music Awards - Show

Game of Thrones is returning for its eighth and final season on Sunday (April 14), and to celebrate what's bound to be an epic ending to quite possibly *the* most beloved shows on television, HBO is releasing a star-studded soundtrack of music inspired by the series.

The latest taste of what to expect from For The Throne is Maren Morris' stark, defiant anthem "Kingdom of One." Led by a minor chord progression strummed on an acoustic guitar, the song is steely and bleak — much like its subject material. "So you wanna play God?/ Come on/ Is that all you got? Come on," she asks in the chorus. "Would you sell your soul? Burn it all/ Everything that you love/ Finally become second to none/ In a kingdom of one." The lines sound eerily like something Cersei Lannister would say. Or perhaps this is a question Daenerys Targaryen is asking herself. Is it worth sacrificing everyone and everything to win the throne?

Listen to Morris' thought-provoking new track below.

For the Throne is slated for an April 26 release. It also features music by Travis Scott, The Lumineers, Ellie Goulding, and a wide range of other contemporary artists.
