A WAITING PERIOD FOR HANDGUN PURCHASES WOULD LOWER SUICIDE RATES

A study out of Ball State University indicates mandated delays in purchasing handguns could reduce the suicide rate in America significantly.Erik Nesson has been analyzing gun-waiting registrations, and estimates 600 suicides per year could be prevented with states mandating the waiting period. He indicated many suicides are impulse activities that could be prevented if potential gun purchasers were made to wait for a period of time.In 1990 there were 16 states with waiting periods to purchase a handgun. That number has dropped to 11 in the most recent statistics.
