AMC To Reopen Theaters Next week With 15-Cent Tickets

AMC is opening its doors after months of COVID-19 closures. On Thursday (August 13), the world's largest movie theater chain announced its plan to reopen amid the ongoing pandemic, including the safety measures each movie theater will be taking in an effort to keep guests and employees safe.

More than 100 AMC theaters in the United States will open up on August 20. In an effort to get guests in the door, AMC shared it will run a new promotion to celebrate its centennial. The movie theater chain will be offering "movies in 2020 at 1920 prices" on opening day—just 15 cents per ticket. The movie theater chain is also offering discounts on concessions like popcorn for $5 through the end of October.

"Our top priority is the health and safety of our guests and crew," AMC posted on Instagram. "We implemented new AMC Safe & Clean policies and procedures with you in mind." The new safety measures include required masks, social distancing, enhanced cleaning procedures and reduced auditorium capacity. AMC also notes that the company is "closely monitoring" state and local guidelines while reopening theaters and will "continue to evolve accordingly."

"We are thrilled to once again open our doors to American moviegoers who are looking for an opportunity to get out of their houses and apartments and escape into the magic of the movies," Adam Aron, AMC's CEO, said in a statement on Thursday.
