JUNE UNEMPLOYMENT RISES IN OHIO, BUT SO DO THE NUMBER OF JOBS

There was an irony to the unemployment numbers released by the state of Ohio this week. The actual unemployment rate for June rose to 5.2%, compared to 5.0 in the month of May. Yet the number of Ohioans at work in June, rose by 31,300 in statistics released by Ohio Job and Family Services. Last year at this time, unemployment in Ohio was 10.3%.

There were gains reported in the goods-producing industry, manufacturing, along with leisure and hospitality, education and health. But there were fewer jobs reported in construction, financial activities, along with professional and business sectors.
