Americans Will Pay For April Fools’ Day Pranks

posted by Josh Busch -

Saturday is April Fools’ Day and it sounds like a lot of people need to be on alert or they will fall victim to a prank. A new poll finds that 31% of Americans plan to pull off at least one prank on April Fools, with 47% of people willing to go so far as to spend money to successfully execute their plan.

So, how much are folks willing to spend on the perfect prank? Well, 73% of people will spend less than $25, although those over the age of 65 are more likely to spend $75 or more, while those 55 to 64 will spend the least on a prank, with 64% saying they won’t spend a dime.

As for the intended victims, the survey finds that 44% of people will play a joke on a member of their family, while 29% will do it to a friend, and 26% will prank a significant other. And even though April Fools falls on a Saturday, the office isn’t immune, with 17% of people planning a prank on a co-worker, and 7% of people brave enough to do it to a boss.

When it comes to who’s most likely to be pulling off a prank, it’s no surprise that the younger generation is more game. In fact, 35% of 18 to 24-year-olds are planning a prank, with 64% hoping to nail their friends this year. They are also most likely to pull one over on a family member, although 25 to 34-year-olds are the most likely to play a joke on a significant other (36%).
