FATAL CRASH IN HENRY COUNTY CLAIMS THE LIFE OF A DEFIANCE MAN

On September 6, 2024, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 2 vehicle crash on State Route 108 south of County Road U in Freedom Twp.

Initial investigation showed a 2017 GMC Sierra operated by 44-year-old James Wagner of Defiance, OH was southbound on State Route 108. A 2024 Peterbilt semi operated by 53-year-old Derek Karcher of Waterloo, IA was northbound on State Route 108. Through investigation, it was learned that the GMC Sierra traveled left of center and was struck head on by the 2024 Peterbilt. Mr. Wagner was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene was Napoleon Fire and Rescue, Ohio Motor Carrier Enforcement, The Henry County Coroner’s Office and Ohio Department of transportation.
